Mental health

The Danish Health Authority supports WHO’s definition of mental health as a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to contribute to her or his community.

Our objective is to support the promotion of the population’s mental health and well-being.

The primary focus in the health sector is on the treatment of mental illness and early intervention in relation to mental symptoms. Our approach is more far-reaching and includes digital health, loneliness, sleep patterns, mental health and pregnancy, as well as the prevention of stress, anxiety and depression.

This holistic approach to mental health looks at the whole person – not just their mental health needs – and considers their physical, emotional, social and spiritual well-being.
